Do the positive thing recycle your batteries…

Batteries are now being collected from your kerbside on a three monthly basis. PLEASE use the small boxes delivered to your door to collect your unused or unwanted batteries and leave THE BOX on the boundary of your property on the date shown on EACH box.

Why recycle household batteries?

In the UK we throw away over 600 million batteries every year. By participating in this new recycling scheme, you can make a positive difference and help reduce the amount of battery waste being disposed of in landfill sites.

The EU Batteries Directive requires the collection and recycling of 25% of portable batteries by 2012 and 45% by 2016. This new battery scheme will help work out the best way to meet these targets and protect your local environment.

ECCO is a not-for-profit organisation, working with local partners to recycle, reduce waste and provide supported employment in the area.

What happens to the batteries once collected?

Once collected, batteries are taken to a recycling centre in the UK and then sorted into batches based on the chemical content of the battery. After sorting, the waste batteries are reprocessed to produce other products, or even new batteries.

What types of batteries can be collected for recycling?

Household batteries are safe to handle and most types can be collected including –

AAA and AA batteries
Sizes C and D
Button batteries (e.g. watch batteries)
Mobile phone batteries
Laptop batteries

It doesn’t matter if the batteries are full, partially discharged or out of date. We can also accept rechargeable batteries.

We CANNOT accept car or similar batteries for recycling through this scheme. These can be taken to household waste recycling centres.
